Well as you all know Sundays here are a little different... Just how
different I haven't told you yet... So here I go. Yesterday started out normal
we woke up at 6:30 and got ready for the day i.e. shower, shave, dress, eat, and
study. really started off good as normal. but instead of going to PEC
(Priesthood Executive Committee) we were going to lead one of our investigators
to church by her following us in her car, this is Liz the one who lives
in our apartment complex. So we get a text from her at 9:15 that says "hey I got
a friend here that is visiting me. Can he come to?" we leaped on the prospect
of having 2 nonmembers at church of course and we quickly said "yes is this your
boyfriend Kevin from Des Moines by any chance?" The response "No this is just a
good friend that is visiting me"
So of course we got really excited and we gladly told them that it was open
to anyone that wanted to come. So we walked over there and knocked on their door
and they both came to church. Now this is where things start getting weird.
We got to church and there are like 12 cars there, now this is weird
because even out here we run on Mormon Standard Time (Ten minutes late to
everything) but we were really excited for it because then Liz and Mike could
meet lots of different people from the branch. we forgot that we were doing lots
of LA work recently and the three people that they meet first were all people
that we had lined up for the Whites to give them rides to church because they
don't have a car.
Everyone else was in a Ward Council meeting. so we got to know mike, Liz's
Friend, a little more and then talked to the members a little more that weren't
in the meeting. You now pretty normal except our investigators were not really
being friendshipped very well.
Then the WCM ended and we got to introduce Liz and Mike to the White
Family... this is a very interesting time for anyone... They are ALL farmers
with all the trimmings that come with that job AND they all wrestled in High
school. At least they tried to calm down the jokes and comments for church.
Liz and Mike both enjoyed the attention that they received and Mike has
been to LDS services before in Des Moines so he sort of knew what was going on. We had to pass the Sacrament so we weren't able to explain any of the terms used
in the Branch business that we had yesterday. So that was a little
disappointing, and a little confusing to her and Mike.
When the Sacrament was passed she just compared it to Communion in a
Catholic church. So yeah I wish that we could have just explained things to her
as they came but we were otherwise preoccupied. then to top things off both of
the speakers were from the High Council and they had decided to talk on.....
Priesthood and Priesthood Keys. She just compared it to
the organization to other church's that she has attended in the past and that is
a small problem for us because then she relates us to other church's and that
doesn't let us really explain how our authority is different from theirs.
Luckily she had a headache and so didn't get to stay for our Sunday school class
and Gospel Doctrine.
After Church we went to see Liz and explained a few things to her and just
to talk and teach her and try to bring out the better parts of the meeting and
also to explain a little more. So we really had a short but good chat with her.
Then we went to the Whites for our weekly meal and game time with the
family. It was a really fun time for a while. It was where we were
planning to watch the NMPS (new mission president seminar) so we will continue
to go and enjoy and try to guide the family by our example of how we treat their
family members.
We ended up watching the Seminar at Blake's home (not where we ate dinner). And that was a great thing to do and I got really good insights for the work here
from it.
Now for a miracle, on Friday our branch president called us and gave us a
referral for a couple that were standing on his porch and wanted to be married
by him. He was requiring them to know a little about our church first. That is
where we came in. We had an appointment set up with them but they didn't show
and so we aren't sure where they vanished to so we will continue to try to meet
them, we have their address.
So I hope that every one is doing good and that they are enjoying the
gospel to the fullest. have a great day,
Elder Keeley
